A long way from the center of the known cosmos lies an empty sector of space, now the home of an artificial sphere caused by a disastrous black hole project. Surrounding this manmade moon is an ever-changing, ever-moving swirling cloud of discarded projects known as the Junk Yard, guarded by a sentient artificial intelligence (AI) known as the ‘Dog’. On the edge of the debris field, corporations, governments, military, and private research facilities are constantly competing to push the boundaries of science. Deep within the Junk Yard is a unique research station called Research One — the only true connection to the Dog, and the station is the governing authority of the Junk Yard. Thanks to the full resources, brightest minds, and cutting-edge materials and technology provided by Research One, Captain Frank Walker creates a one-of-a-kind ship, Exploration & Research Ship (ERS) Cassiopeia.
