Spacecraft Structure

Structural Layout

Each deck is laid out on-top of a Thermodium grid of I-beams underneath a solid base panel which forms a rigid supporting structure for the deck and a horizontal supporting structure for the hull. The superstructure plate is sealed providing overall pressure isolation between the decks.

Hallways are arranged on the grid in such a way that the main vertical supports for the hallway and walls rests above the I-beam and form a vertical load transfer path between the deck superstructure.

Hallways and rooms are built-in semi-modular fashion consisting of a series of primary structural elements made of Thermodium supports and pressure bulkheads, and secondary structural and decorative elements made of standard materials. Both hallways and rooms are completely sealed when all access points are closed.

Internal Coordinate System

Intraship locations are referenced with a 7 character alpha-numeric address divided into 3 parts.

A-###-##P

The ship is divided into 3 primary sections divided by a major structural bulkhead with each major section being further divided into subsections along the longitudinal axis (nose to tail). Subsections are numbered sequentially from the nose of the ship to the tail.

The first part represents the major section. There are 3 possible letters for the major sections; F – Forward Section, M – Middle Section, A – Aft Section.

The second part represents the deck and sub-section. Sub-sections 1-11 are located in the forward section, sub-sections 12-18 are located in the middle section, sub-sections 19-25 are located in the aft section.

The third part represents the compartment number and the side of the ship off the center line, there are 3 possible letters for side of the ship; P – Port Side, S – Starboard Side, C – Center Line. Compartments are numbered sequentially from the center line out to the side of the ship. Most rooms and areas of the ship will be either to the left (port) or right (starboard) of the ship’s longitudinal center line, however there are a few areas that are centered on the ship’s center line.

When placing door labels, typically only the last 6 characters are used referencing the door’s position.
