Artificial Gravity System

The artificial gravity system consists of microgravity generator-emitter assemblies located throughout the ship.

The core of each artificial gravity device is a microgravity generator which generates the active gravity field. High energy power conduits running underneath the floor provide power to each generator directly from the ship’s fusion generators. This creates a power grid separate from all other power grids within the ship. The units are placed underneath each of the deck plates of each grid space providing localized gravity above that grid space. Additional units may be placed in other locations as the need for specialized use fo controlled gravity beams.

The emitter plates do the work of emitting the gravity field to create a gravity force above the plate. On deck plate units, the emitter is positioned on top of the unit facing the underside of the deck plate. The strength and affected area of the gravity field can be adjusted as needed. The emission angle can also be adjusted slightly, allowing the pull to be offset from the center, out to the sides of the emitter emission plane. On other units, the emitter may be configured to produce a controlled beam of gravity which can be used to push or pull an object. In these units, the bean’s direction and distance can be altered as needed.

By dynamically adjusting the pull angle of a deck plate unit in conjunction with the neighboring deck plate units, the ship’s gravity system can cancel out some of the inertia of flight maneuvers by providing an opposing force to the force generated by the maneuver. In normal flight operations, this is done as a proactive predictive action where the system anticipates the calculated forces of a flight maneuver using information from the flight system and calculates the required counter-force and when to apply the counter-force. When an external force is applied to the ship, sensors throughout the ship measure the amount of force experienced by the ship and the system reactively applies the appropriate counter force to maintain a stable environment within the habitable regions of the ship. As a reactive counter-force, there is a slight time-lag between when a force is measured and a counter force can be applied.

With the small size of the gravity generators, there is no gravity buffer system in-place. This means that should a generator loose power, the gravity field it generated will dissipate within seconds of loss of power.
